Report: Former Hawks Center Plans to Sign With The Oklahoma City Thunder
Former Atlanta Hawks center Mike Muscala plans to sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder once he clears waivers according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Muscala started this season off with the Washington Wizards, but was then traded to the Detroit Pistons. Detroit bought him out and now he plans to sign with one of the NBA's best teams after he clears waivers and this is not going to be his first stint in Oklahoma City. Muscala played for the Thunder from 2019-2023.
Muscala was drafted by the Hawks in 2013 and played for the franchise from 2013 until 2018. He was a part of two different phases of Hawks basketball, playing with the Paul Millsap era Hawks teams and then was on the team that got in the lottery and drafted Trae Young. Muscala was always a fan favorite in Atlanta and still gets cheers whenever he is in town playing the Hawks.
The Hawks themselves are coming off an embarrassing loss to Brooklyn and will look to bounce back tomorrow.
Atlanta is in Brooklyn for two games vs the Nets and winning both games would have helped the Hawks tighten their grip on their spot in the NBA play-in Tournament. The Nets had other plans though.
Brooklyn ran away from the Hawks in the second half and cut Atlanta's lead for the No. 10 spot to three games, making Saturday's game very important. If Atlanta wins on Saturday, the lead for No. 10 will go back to four games. If the Nets win, the lead will be cut to two games and they will own the tiebreaker over Atlanta. The Hawks could use a win on Saturday.
