Saddiq Bey Trade Finalized for Atlanta Hawks
The four-team trade that sent Detroit Pistons forward Saddiq Bey to the Atlanta Hawks has been approved. The deal was originally agreed upon before Thursday's NBA trade deadline. However, a failed physical led to several days of drama and uncertainty.
The transaction was far more complex than a traditional trade. The deal required the Golden State Warriors to send James Wiseman to Detroit for Bey and Kevin Knox. In turn, Atlanta sent five second-round picks to Golden State for Bey; Golden State sent Knox and the second-round picks to Portland for Gary Payton II.
If that was not confusing enough, the entire trade hit a snag when Payton failed a physical for Golden State. Portland has been accused of not being forthright about the extent of Payton's core injury, which The Athletic reports was treated with oral Toradol medication.
Golden State had until 9:30 p.m. Eastern on Sunday night to approve or rescind the trade. Luckily for Atlanta, Bey gets to stay put. However, the 23-year-old has not been able to participate in any basketball activities since the deal was put on hold.
Golden State is not done with the matter. According to the article in The Athletic, the league office has received a complaint from the Golden State against Portland. The league has launched a review of potential misleading by Portland regarding Payton's status.
Atlanta faces the Charlotte Hornets on the road Monday night. Bey will be with the team, but it is unclear if he will be ready to play with his new squad. Stay locked into AllHawks.com for news, analysis, and interviews.
