Three Takeaways From Hawks 130-124 Win Over Detroit
Atlanta avoided being the team that the Pistons snapped their losing streak on.
Detroit came into the game on a 23-game losing streak and thanks to another brilliant game from Trae Young, the losing streak is now at 24. It was not always pretty, but Atlanta won their second game in the last three tries and they did it without Bogdan Bogdanovic and Jalen Johnson, two of the most important pieces to the team.
So what are the big takeaways from tonight's win? Let's break them down.
1. Trae Young is playing at an elite level right now
Young is one of the most criticized players in the NBA and some of that stuff is unfair. The Hawks are 11-15, yes, but Young is playing like one of the best point guards in the NBA and is continually setting his teammates up for success.
It was the fourth straight game for Young in which he had at least 30 points and 10 assists. Some of the passes that he was making tonight were absurd, but he was making it look easy.
The Hawks have plenty of issues right now, but Young is not one of them. With the All-Star game right around the corner, he is making a case to be on the team.
2. It was good to see De'Andre Hunter play well
After missing three games, Hunter made his return to the Hawks over the weekend in their loss to the Cavs, but he really made his return in style tonight.
Hunter finished the game with 19 points and six rebounds on 7-15 shooting and he looked confident playing out there. Hunter is one of the most important pieces on this roster and having him play well will do wonders for this team.
3. Seth Lundy saw his first action tonight and played decent
Lundy was a second-round pick by the Hawks this year and has been bouncing back and forth between College Park and being on the Hawks. With Jalen Johnson and AJ Griffin out, as well as Garrison Matthews and Wesley Matthews not playing well, it was going to be interesting to see if Quin Snyder played Lundy and for how long.
Lundy got nearly nine minutes tonight and finished as with a +1 mark on the floor. He did not score, but he looked like he knew what he was doing on defense and played smart. I don't know if he will stick around in the rotation, but for his first NBA action, Lundy looked ok.
