Trae Young Indicates Support for Steve Nash as Coach
Less than 24 hours ago, the Atlanta Hawks fired Nate McMillan after less than two years since initially hiring the veteran coach. No player had a more significant impact on the late-season coaching change than Trae Young.
Earlier today, general manager Landry Fields spoke to the media for the first time since the news broke last night. Fields said no individual player had input on the move, but he felt McMillan's voice was lost in the locker room.
As the organization embarks on another coaching search, Young is sending a thinly-veiled message on his Instagram account. Young posted pictures of himself with his family and dogs while wearing a retro Steve Nash jersey.
Fans can assume that Young is a fan of the 1990s Phoenix Suns or their uniforms (both were cool), or he is campaigning for his team to hire the coach who once called his game "not basketball."
Nash is available as the Brooklyn Nets fired him earlier this season. However, his name has not come up yet in the lengthy number of potential coaching candidates led by former Utah Jazz coach Quin Snyder.
It is a perilous time in Atlanta as they overhauled their front office and coaching staff in the middle of the season. We will soon find out if the players or coaches are to blame for Atlanta's disappointing 29-30 start to the season.
