Bam Adebayo Makes Early Case For Defensive Player Of Year In Win Over Memphis Grizzlies

Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo recorded four blocks in a dominant performance against the Memphis Grizzlies

Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo caught the eye of many in a stellar defensive showcase against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night.

In 25 minutes, Adebayo recorded four blocks while holding the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Jaren Jackson Jr., to 14 points. He had a block on Jackson in the first quarter, which led to a fast-break alley-oop from Haywood Highsmith.

Adebayo averaged 1.2 steals and 0.8 blocks last season with his 6-foot-9 frame. The ability to defend players with such a size advantage should only add to the credibility of his defense.

Last season, Adebayo finished fifth in Defensive Player of the Year voting behind Jackson, Brook Lopez, Evan Mobley, and Draymond Green. After earning his fourth All-Defensive Team selection, Adebayo is looking to earn the ultimate award.

In the annual NBA GM survey, Adebayo did not receive a single vote for who is the best defensive player in the NBA. The likes of Alex Caruso and Luguentz Dort earned votes despite their resumes not stacking up to Adebayo’s.

Although he may not have the most flashy or fun-to-watch playstyle, the efficiency remains consistent.

Entering his sixth season in the league, he is hoping to prove to voters why he deserves the Defensive Player of the Year award.

Is This Finally The Year Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo Wins Defensive Player Of The Year?
