The Miami Heat will almost certainly have to trade guard Tyler Herro to acquire Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard.

The Brooklyn Nets have targeted Herro after emerging as a top candidate to become the third team in the deal. According NBA insider Ian Begley, the Nets have strong interest in Herro.

"It’s unclear which Nets players were discussed as part of the three-team trade and if Brooklyn had any other stipulations for completing a deal," Begley wrote. "But as of Saturday evening, the Nets were, at least, open to the idea of a trade that landed Herro in Brooklyn."

Herro was the Heat's third-leading scorer last season but missed most of the playoffs due to a broken hand. In 2022, he was the league's Sixth Man of the Year. Despite team president Pat Riley referring to Herro as a cornerstone of the organization, he becomes expendable when it comes to a player of Lillard's caliber.
