Damian Lillard’s Value To Miami Heat Gives Glimpse Of Joel Embiid’s Potential Cost
The Portland Trail Blazers remain hesitant to entertain any offer from the Miami Heat since All-Star guard Damian Lillard requested a trade July 1.
With the drama surrounding the Philadelphia 76ers and star James Harden, Joel Embiid could request a trade. Although Lillard is in the upper echelon at his position, Embiid is coming off an MVP season where he averaged 33.1 points and 10.2 rebounds.
Only a select few players, including Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Luka Doncic would have a higher value than him.
The Heat reportedly offered a package of three or four first-round picks, expiring contracts, and potentially a young player while also likely needing to find a suitor for Tyler Herro so he can be involved.
This is likely the best package the Blazers will receive due to Lillard expressing his desire to only play for the Heat.
Philadelphia has a reputation for demanding incredibly high amounts for players, suggesting the cost for Embiid could potentially exceed five first-round picks and a star player. Only a handful of organizations are capable of paying that, such as the Houston Rockets and Detroit Pistons.
Embiid's tenure with the 76ers may be approaching its conclusion. Nevertheless, the process of relocating him could span several months.
