Dwyane Wade On The Love Of Miami Heat Fans: "Here It's Different"
It was a special evening for Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade, who was celebrated at the 'Wade Hall of Fame night.'
On top of a blowout victory against the Charlotte Hornets, it was announced that the 13-time All-Star will receive a statue outside the Kaseya Center. It was an emotional night for the retired guard, who was sure to express his gratitude for the Heat fan base.
"Here it's different. I was born in Chicago, but Miami is where I grew up. A lot of the fan base grew up with me. A lot of the kids were young and their parents forced them to watch me and make me their favorite player," Wade said. "I'm not the greatest player to play basketball, but you can't tell me that or anyone in Miami that when I come here. I feel like the greatest player when I step in this arena, city and state."
Wade spent the majority of his career in Miami, outside of a few seasons with the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers. He won three championships with the Heat, acting as the centerpiece for their 2006 title.
He is not taking the prestigious honor of a statue lightly, which is clear from his comments about the organization and fan base.
