Eastern Conference Recap: Jalen Brunson And RJ Barrett Lift New York Knicks Above Atlanta Hawks
TOP STORY:
The New York Knicks' first victory of the season came at the hands of Jalen Brunson and RJ Barrett. Brunson continued his impressive career in New York, scoring 31 points against the Atlanta Hawks on 8 of 12 shooting from 3-point range.
Julius Randle struggled with turnovers and lackluster shooting, but still finished the night with 17 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists. Mitchell Robinson held the Knicks down defensively with 13 rebounds, four steals and four blocks. Donte DiVincenzo contributed 16 points after a zero-point display against the Boston Celtics.
Meanwhile, Hawks guard Trae Young had another poor offensive performance, shooting 25 percent from the field with six turnovers. While the star backcourt didn't play up to standard, forward De'Andre Hunter performed admirably with a team-high 27-points.
- The Detroit Pistons defeated the Charlotte Hornets with 42 combined bench points from Alec Burks and Jaden Ivey. Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson crashed the boards with 30 combined rebounds, providing second-chance opportunities for Detroit.
- DeMar DeRozan's 33 points helped the Chicago Bulls edge out the Toronto Raptors. Zach LaVine's lackluster offensive night was offset by a double-double from Alex Caruso and 17 points from Coby White.
- The Orlando Magic remain undefeated after their 102-97 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. The Wagner brothers combined for 40 points, while guard Cole Anthony had another solid performance with 18 points on 42 percent shooting from 3-point range.
