Erik Spoelstra On Delon Wright's Early Impact: "It Feels Like He's Heat Family"
Miami Heat guard had a modest stat line in Tuesday's victory against the Portland Trail Blazers.
He had two points, two rebounds and four assists in 17 minutes.
Nothing to scream about, right? Not to Heat coach Erik Spoelstra. He continues to gush over how quickly Wright has fit into the system in such a short period.
"It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out this guy kind of fits how we play," Spoelstra said. "He fits our personality. He's a veteran player. Until the last two or three weeks, he was in a rotation so he was in shape. He was in rhythm ... He's a smart, winning player."
Wright has only played in two games since he was acquired recently from the Washington Wizards during the buyout period. It also helps he is the younger brother of Dorrell Wright, a former Heat first-round draft pick.
It gave Spoelstra confidence to plug in Delon Wright while they were dealing with injuries.
"Because of the injuries we've had, it's also a position of need," Spoelstra said. "We're just super grateful that we were able to acquire him. It's also a familiar guy. It feels like he's Heat family."
The Heat return to action Thursday against the Denver Nuggets.
