With the Miami Heat-Boston Celtics series heading into Game 4, the Celtics look to keep their Finals hopes alive after an embarrassing performance.

Not only did the Celtics lose Game 3 but their star duo in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown disappointed their fans once again when they combined for just 26 points.

On Monday, former NBA player and First Take host Kendrick Perkins was asked if Tatum and Brown hit their ceiling together.

“Hell yeah, they have,” Perkins quickly responded. “And I said two years ago and damn it, they made a Finals run and everyone was harping on me but it’s time right now. It’s time to break up the duo and I’m saying it with the utmost confidence. When you have been to multiple Conference Finals, when you have reached the NBA Finals and you see that the way that they play. They don’t complement each other well.”

Tatum and Brown are one of the most inconsistent duos in the NBA. They both lead the Celtics in scoring with Tatum posting 30 points a night. But most times, when he has a great game, Brown disappears and vice versa. It’s rare when both of them score a high amount of points in the same night. Perkins pointed to their off-court chemistry as a cause for it.

“And to be honest with you, I’m not saying they have to be best friends. But its alarming to me when I watch and I look across the internet and I see guys working out throughout the summer time and I have never see Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown link up one time.”

It seems to be a trend now of viral videos showing teammates working out during the summertime together. But there has never been a footage of the Celtics’ duo hanging out. Granted, Tatum is a new father and has a family he attends to. But at the same time, in order for on-court chemistry to work, they have to prepare during the offseason.

Perkins ended it with a final statement.

“I’m sorry,” Perkins said. “Even though we love Jaylen Brown, I think he’s one of the most underrated players in the game today, it is time to break up the duo.”
