Former Sixth Man Star Says Tyler Herro Has To "Avoid Getting Caught Up Feelings"
Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro is one of the biggest storylines entering this season.
The most common question is how he responds to the offseason trade speculation involving Damian Lillard: Is he over being tangled as trade bait or still dealing with hurt feelings?
Former NBA Sixth Man Richard "Rip" Hamilton says Herro needs to leave the past behind if he is going to become an impact player this season.
"I would have to say that Miami is heavily invested in Tyler Herro," Hamilton said during an appearance on CBS Sports. "People forget the game of basketball, especially in the NBA, it's a business. The one thing you always got to be careful on, especially when putting a guy out there for a trade, is how that guy or how that player is going to come back and respond."
Somehow, Herro faced criticism because some felt he was devalued after the Heat made the NBA Finals despite playing without him most of the postseason. Herro has nothing to prove to the Heat because they have tons of confidence in him but outsiders are still not sold.
"I always say, is he going to prove to the Miam Heat that he is the superstar that they were looking for that can pair up with Bam and Jimmy Butler out on the floor or is he going to come and be a disgruntled worker," Hamilton said. "That happens a lot, especially in professional sports. When you're put out there as trade bait and he ends up not getting traded and he's still there, then he comes back and says, `You know what, screw you guys. I'm just going to show up and I'm waiting for my agent to do a deal behind closed doors. I feel like Tyler Herro wants to be in Miami. ... This is the best spot for him. Hopefully, he doesn't get caught up in his feelings early in the season."'
