Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr knows a thing or two about championship teams.

On a recent episode of Draymond Green’s podcast The Draymond Green Show, Kerr explained why the Miami Heat are having so much success this postseason. He was impressed with their fourth-quarter comeback Sunday against the Denver Nuggets because it was keyed by Duncan Robinson and role players instead of stars Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.

Kerr enjoyed the unselfishness of the team.

“None of those guys in Miami are sitting there saying ‘Well, I didn’t play’ or ‘Man, they put in so and so’. They’re just all about winning and you know this from our groups we’ve had,” Kerr said. “When you have that championship mentality, every guy’s bought in, every guy’s just trying to win. Nobody cares about any of that stuff. You don’t go into the locker room, saying ‘I should’ve played more’. You just want to win and that’s the beauty of finding that magic when you have a championship team. Everybody’s bought in and it makes the decisions for the coach really simple. You just go with your gut and go with whoever’s playing well.”

As rare as it is today, the Heat have displayed unselfishness the whole season. Expectedly, Butler and Adebayo carried the scoring load but they also got their teammates involved. They averaged a combined eight assists in the regular season and playoffs. It paid off at the end with a trip to the Finals where undrafted player Gabe Vincent is getting his opportunity to shine.
