A fourth quarter Miami Heat comeback in Game 2 against the Denver Nuggets had fan optimism at a high. That optimism quickly turned to pessimism after a blowout victory.

“Absolute pathetic effort tonight,” user HeatCulture said. “Jimmy and Bam provided the only offense, the rest of the guys didn’t show up. The refs were bad but we missed too many easy shots we usually make and got dominated on the boards. Game 4 is a must win for us. Our season is on the line on Friday.”

Some blamed the referees for supposedly favoring Denver. To be fair, some of the officiating did kill Miami’s momentum in the second quarter.

But, there were many factors contributing to the double-digit loss.

The Heat’s lack of size was shown in the rebounding discrepancy, particularly on the offensive boards. They were outrebounded 58 to 33, with Nikola Jokic having 21 alone. With this height disadvantage, it is crucial to hit outside shots to keep the game in reach. Unfortunately, the Heat only had three players in double figures in Bam Adebayo, Jimmy Butler and Caleb Martin. Even then, they missed several shots at the rim and barely got anything going on the 3-point line. Gabe Vincent and Max Strus were a combined 3 of 17 for just 10 points.

With a shooting performance like that, it’s hard to contest the opposing stars having 30-point triple doubles. Jokic and Jamal Murray combined for 66 points, 31 rebounds and 20 assists.

But the dagger was watching rookie guard Christian Braun dice them up for 15 points off the bench.

The Heat are back home Friday night for Game 4.
