How Rajon Rondo, LeBron James Prepped For The Heat Or Celtics In 2020 Finals

Rajon Rondo and LeBron James agreed to let their former coaches, Erik Spoelstra and Brad Stevens, dictate who prepared the Lakers for the 2020 Finals

The Los Angeles Lakers were either going to face the Boston Celtics or Miami Heat in the 2020 NBA Finals.

Lakers stars LeBron James and Rajon Rondo figured they had an advantage because both played for Heat coach Erik Spoelstra and the Celtics' Brad Stevens in their careers.

So that's how they determined which player would lead the preparation.

"This goes back to the bubble," Rondo said on a recent appearance on JJ Redick's "Old Man And The Three" podcast. "It was Miami and Boston again. We were sitting in the room watching the game. It went down to the wire. Bron's like, `If we get Miami, I got Spo. If we get Boston, you got Brad.' That was kind of our mindset. It wasn't like, `Oh, we're going to beat the Heat or we're going to beat the Celtics.' It was more so if we can out-coach or out-play the coaches on that staff, two guys that we felt we knew pretty good, we're going to win."'

As we know, James must have been better prepared than Spoelstra because the Lakers won 4-2.
