Is Patrick Beverley Right On His Claim Of The Miami Heat And Eastern Conference Being `Kinda Weak?'

Beverley left the Western Conference because he feels he has a better chance of winning in the East

Guard Patrick Beverley had every opportunity to join the Golden State Warriors during the NBA buyout season.

Instead, he chose to return to his hometown and play for the Chicago Bulls. The reason? Beverley feels he has a better chance of making the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.

“It was between Golden State and the Bulls," Beverley said on his podcast "... I figured I make a playoff push with the Bulls right now. The East kinda weak.”

Beverley is known for his brash attitude and trash-talking on the court, but does he have a point? The Bulls, who are in 11th place in the East, are only three games back of the No. 8 seed. While the East is top-heavy with the Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics, the Brooklyn Nets lost Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving to the Western Conference.

Durant created a super team with the Phoenix Suns by joining Devin Booker and Chris Paul. Irving gives the Dallas Mavericks a better chance to contend in the West after teaming with Luka Doncic. The West also has the top-seeded Denver Nuggets, led by MVP frontrunner Nikola Jokic, and the Warriors could get going at any point the next couple months.

So maybe Beverley is on to something here. The Heat and the rest of the conference will find out the final portion of the season.
