Jimmy Butler Played A Role In Miami Heat Pursuing Damian Lillard

A report says Jimmy Butler told the Miami Heat they should covet Damian Lillard during free agency

Jimmy Butler did everything he could on the court to help the Miami Heat reach the NBA Finals last season.

Now, he's making efforts off the court so the Heat can improve their chances of winning a championship next season. He played a role in the Heat going after Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard during free agency according to Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes.

"Jimmy Butler, I was told, let the Heat know as early as two weeks ago that Damian Lillard should be their No. 1 target this offseason," Haynes said. "The Miami Heat are going in full steam to try to accomplish that."

The Heat likely need a third team in the scenario to complete a trade. During an interview on NBA TV, Haynes said the Brooklyn Nets could also enter the scenario.

"It's looking like if the deal is going to be completed between the Heat and Blazers at some point, it's looking like it will require the facilitation of a third team," Haynes said. "What I can say is look out for the Brooklyn Nets to be potentially part of the whole process ... I was told the package would be centered around Tyler Herro, some picks and possibly Duncan Robinson."
