LeBron James Gives His Thoughts On Miami Heat Coach Erik Spoelstra's Contract Extension
LeBron James was among those who praised Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra for his latest achievement.
On Tuesday, Spoelstra was given an eight-year, $120 million contract extension. It is the highest deal for a coach in NBA history. James said Spoelstra was deserving of the money.
Here's what James posted on social media: "Worth Every Single Cent of that contract!!! Congrats Spo!!"
James played for the Heat from 2010-14. They won two championships in four straight appearances in the Finals. Spoelstra handled a team full of superstars that included Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Ray Allen.
After starting as a video coordinator, Spoelstra was introduced as coach at the beginning of the 2008-09 season. He has since posted a 725-506 record and is 109-75 in the postseason. The Heat have won two titles in six appearances in the NBA Finals. Last year they became the second No. 8 seed to make the Finals, joining the 1999 New York Knicks. The Heat fell short last June, falling to Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.
Spoelstra is second-longest tenured coach in the league behind Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs. The NBA recently named Spoelstra as one of the top 15 coaches in NBA history.
