Miami Heat Fan Favorite Goran Dragic Announces He Will Retire After This Season
Goran Dragic arguably had the best years of his career with the Miami Heat.
He recently announced he will retire after the end of the season. The news was first reported by the Slovenian website SiOL.net. Dragic played for the Heat from 2015-21. He was acquired that season from the Phoenix Suns during a blockbuster trade.
In 2018, Dragic had his best year in Miami. He earned his lone All-Star appearance that season. He played a strong role in the Heat making the 2020 NBA Finals during the bubble season in Orlando. The Heat lost in six games to the LeBron James-led Los Angeles Lakers.
Many expected Dragic to end his career in Miami because of his popularity with the fans. He was later involved in the trade for guard Kyle Lowry. Later, Dragic expressed interest in a return to Miami.
Dragic, who was originally drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in 2008, had stints with the Suns and Houston Rockets before arriving with the Heat. He bounced around the league since 2021, playing with the Raptors, Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks.
Dragic will likely join the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame because of his NBA and international achievements.
