In this story:

Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra is an assistant to Golden State's Steve Kerr for the USA Men’s National Team.

Spoelstra is joined on the staff by Los Angeles Clippers coach Tyronn Lue and Gonzaga coach Mark Few. Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr is the head.

This year’s roster is highlighted by stars Anthony Edwards, Jalen Brunson, and Jaren Jackson Jr. Spoelstra is arguably the best coach on this staff. Although Kerr has more rings, Spoelstra has proven successful with multiple cores.

Heat fans have not taken kindly to the news criticizing the choice of Kerr being named above him.

While 'best coach in the NBA' may be a slight overstatement, it is understandable why fans are frustrated. Spoelstra is a two-time NBA champion. He has also led the Heat to the Finals two times in the past four seasons.

While Kerr has proven to be a successful coach, he has not had his skin in the game like Spoelstra. Spoelstra spent over a decade as an assistant for the Heat. He has now been the coach for 15 years. Kerr has only been the Warriors coach since 2014.

Some Miami fans are, however, overreacting in defense of their coach. While Spoelstra may be better, it is hard to argue with Kerr's resume. He is a four-time NBA champion in Golden State while also winning five rings during his career with the Chicago Bulls.

Although he is an assistant, Spoelstra looks ready to get to work.
