Miami Heat Legend Dwyane Wade Says Jimmy Butler Is "Building His Own Story"
Several players played a role in the Miami Heat earning a second straight appearance in the Eastern Conference finals but the one who showed up almost every night was superstar Jimmy Butler.
His unreal postseason has shocked many, Heat icon Dwyane Wade.
During an interview with Complex, Wade spoke about Butler and admired the way he has come to Miami with a do-it-my-way approach.
“They're writing their history,” Wade said. “Jimmy, he's building his own story. He's building his own Hall of Fame career. And as someone who's a fan of the game, someone's a fan of his, someone who kind of walks the same track as him. I love to see it. It is great for the game. It's great for Miami obviously.”
Wade played with the Heat for 15 total years, helping them win three championships. When he retired in 2019, the fans wondered who would next lead the franchise.
Then, Butler came along with reassurance.
When he joined the Heat, he immediately led them to an NBA Finals appearance but lost 4-2 to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.
““You want to make sure that the culture and everything that the plate is set,” Wade continued. “So once you leave that the next individuals that can come that they can just hop on and they don't have to rebuild and start all the way over. And so it's good to see the success that they're having shortly after I've retired right away. Three years in the Eastern Conference Finals, and you gotta give a lot of credit to Spo, Jimmy and those players.”
Butler is averaging 31 points in the playoffs, including a 56-point performance against the Milwaukee Bucks, entering Wednesday's Game 1 against the Boston Celtics.
