Miami Heat vs. Charlotte Hornets Takeaways: Miami's Forwards Highlight Narrow Victory

Miami Heat forwards Jimmy Butler, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Caleb Martin were key factors in Monday’s win against the Charlotte Hornets

The Miami Heat bounced back from their double-digit loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers with a nail-biting win over the Charlotte Hornets, 116-114.

Here’s a look at five major takeaways:

1. Miami’s forwards highlighted the victory.

Wings are often viewed as the strong point of their offense, which proved true tonight. Star Jimmy Butler led the way with 23 points and eight assists on 58.3 percent shooting. Rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Caleb Martin combined for 38 points on solid efficiency. With Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo on the sideline, this group must thrive.

2. Terry Rozier shines without LaMelo Ball.

Rozier's score-first nature benefits from Ball's absence. He finished the night with 34 points on 58.8 percent shooting and 8 of 13 from three-point range. The 29-year-old guard is thriving with the ball in his hands despite missing a buzzer-beater to win the game.

3. Three-point shooting is a major piece of the Heat’s identity.

Arguably the most reliable asset for their offense is knocking down three-point shots at an efficient rate. This strength continued in Monday’s showcase, as they shot 42.9 percent from beyond the arc. Duncan Robinson and Kevin Love highlighted the bunch by shooting a combined 9 of 17.

4. Ball’s presence is missed for the Hornets.

Despite a stellar night from Rozier, it's clear Charlotte cannot compete without Ball on the floor. He provides all aspects on the offensive end, easing pressure from the rest of the roster. The star guard is known for his highlight plays, which set up his teammates for open looks.

5. Backcourt struggles continue for the Heat.

Until Herro returns, Miami’s backcourt will continue to lack success. Kyle Lowry and Josh Richardson played a combined 60 minutes but finished with five points and nine assists.
