The Miami Heat took down the Memphis Grizzlies 108-102 in the first of a four-game road trip.

No one had more of an impact on the defensive end than forward Haywood Highsmith. His top defensive effort came late in the opening quarter.

Highsmith rejected Memphis big man Santi Aldama on a cut, but he retained possession. Aldama drove in, missing a hook shot from in the paint, guarded closely by Highsmith. He grabbed his own rebound but was blocked for the second time in one possession.

On the offensive end, Miami settled down but capitalized on Highsmith’s defensive efforts. Duncan Robinson cut backdoor for an easy finish at the rim, extending their double-digit lead.

Highsmith filled the box score in hopes of retaining his starting spot once Caleb Martin returns. He finished the night with 14 points, two rebounds, two steals, and three blocks. He shot 71.4 percent and 2 of 4 from beyond the arc. The Heat remain undefeated with him in the starting lineup.

Miami's fourth-quarter struggles continued despite Highsmith's lockdown defense. Guard Tyler Herro sustained an injury early on, leaving Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler to lead the way. Adebayo's 16-point performance in the final quarter pushed them to a win.

The Heat have two days off before back-to-back games against the Atlanta Hawks and San Antonio Spurs.
