Miami Heat Will Continue To Monitor Josh Richardson's Foot Injury
The Miami Heat are being hit with the injury bug already this season.
Guard Josh Richardson was the latest to join the list when he was unable to play the second half in Wednesday's preseason loss to the Brooklyn Nets. Richardson left the game with a foot injury.
After the game, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra provided an update.
"I just talked to him," Spoelstra said. "I don't take anything players say right now. he says he's fine. We'll see. We'll treat him [Thursday]. We'll probably have a better idea the next couple days."
Richardson, who was originally drafted by the Heat in the second round of 2015, was reacquired this offseason. Among his stops were the Philadelphia 76ers, Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks since being involved in the Jimmy Butler trade in 2019.
Richardson is competing for a spot in the starting lineup because of his versatility and ability as a two-way player. The Heat are already dealing with injuries to Tyler Herro (thigh), Caleb Martin (knee) and Jaime Jaquez (groin). All did not play in the home preseason finale but none of the injuries appears serious.
Spoelstra said he expects Herro back in the lineup by the season opener while Martin and Jaquez may need a little more time.
The Heat close the preseason Friday at the Houston Rockets before opening the season Oct. 25 against the Detroit Pistons at home.
