Earlier this year, it was announced that Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade was named a finalist for the 2023 Hall of Fame, along with Dirk Nowitzki, Pau Gasol, Tony Parker, Becky Hammon, and Gregg Popovich.

Wade's career spanned 16 seasons when he earned 13 NBA All-Star selections, three NBA championships, and an Olympic gold medal. Known for his athleticism, scoring ability, and clutch performances, Wade was a key player on the Miami Heat during their championship runs in 2006, 2012, and 2013. Also taking home the Finals MVP in 2006 after beating the Dallas Mavericks in six games.

Wade generated many fans around the world, including one of Dennis Smith Jr’s sisters. During a recent interview after the Charlotte Hornets beat the Dallas Mavericks 117-109, Smith revealed that there was a lot of love for Dwyane Wade in his household growing up.

“He deserves it; that was my sister’s favorite player growing up. She used to wear his shoes when he was with Converse, so we got a lot of love for D Wade in our household,” Smith said.

“And I got to play against him in his last game in The Garden [Madison Square Garden]. So, I salute him, and he deserves everything that is coming for him.”

In Wade’s final appearance at MSG, he had 16 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

“You love playing here. You hear about it,” said Wade after the game.

“When I played in college, I got the opportunity to play here, the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. It was just immediately, that feel, and the feel was there. Getting an opportunity to play (here) in the NBA has been special.”

As a finalist for the Hall of Fame, Wade joins an elite group of players who have made significant contributions to the sport of basketball. If he is inducted, it will be a fitting tribute to a player who inspired countless fans and helped define the modern era of basketball.
