Miami Heat's Haywood Highsmith Out Tonight After Being In Involved In Car Crash

Miami Heat release statement on Haywood Highsmith after he was in a accident following Tuesday's game

Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith is away from the team for tonight's game against the San Antonio Spurs after being involved in a car accident. 

The team announced the crash occurred after Highsmith left Kaseya Center following the Heat's victory against the Orlando Magic. The Heat did not comment on the severity of the accident.

"We have been made aware that Highsmith was involved in a car accident heading home from last night’s game," the Heat released in a statement. "Highsmith is listed as out for tonight’s contest against the San Antonio Spurs due to Personal Reasons. Our hearts go out to those who were injured. We will have no further comment at this time."

Highsmith has been a key part of the Heat for the past two seasons. He was in the starting lineup until being replaced Caleb Martin Tuesday against the Magic. A former two-way contract player, Highsmith worked his way up to a rotation spot last season. 

He was a key member of the team that advanced to play the Denver Nuggets in last year's NBA Finals. This year, Highsmith is averaging 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds. 

Tip-off for the Heat vs. Spurs, who are led by top pick Victor Wembanyama, is at 7:30.
