Miami Heat's Jimmy Butler On Missed Game Winner: "I’m Never Going For The Tie"
The Miami Heat (35-29) were stunned by the Washington Wizards (11-53) on Sunday, 110-108.
Heat star Jimmy Butler was faced with a split-second decision at the end of the game with a two-point deficit. He decided to go for the win, attempting a three-pointer with less than two seconds left. The shot was off the mark, but Butler has no regrets regarding his choice.
“I’m never going for the tie. Ever," Butler said postgame.
The 34-year-old forward finished the night with 23 points, four assists, and three rebounds on 9 of 20 shooting. He is one of the most competitive players in the league, so his decision makes sense. Not to mention, Butler likely didn't have the time to get a better look inside. Sharpshooter Duncan Robinson also shot a potential game-winner from the arc with five seconds to go but came up short.
"This game is just very humbling. If you don't come out with the right mindset, this is what will happen and continue to happen," Butler said. "Ain't too much to say."
It's clear that the Heat are missing star guard Tyler Herro's aggressiveness on offense, despite his inconsistency. Injuries have derailed Herro's season once again, as the organization hopes for health in the postseason.
The Heat return to action on Wednesday against the reigning champion Denver Nuggets.
