Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler’s Stats Mirror Steph Curry’s 2016 MVP Numbers

A statistic found a comparison between Curry and Butler’s statistics.

Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler was not selected to participate in last weekend's All-Star Game but his numbers still remain among the best in the league.

StatMuse compared Butler’s statistics to Steph Curry’s during his 2016 MVP season. Curry averaged 30.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.8 steals.

While Curry had a significant edge in scoring, all other areas are similar. Butler isn’t an MVP candidate this season but this graphic illustrates how he is still performing at a high level. Butler is 29th in the league in scoring and averages the most steals outside of Toronto Raptors forward OG Anunoby. He remains a clutch finisher, as evidenced by his shots against the Houston Rockets (Feb. 10) and Oklahoma City Thunder (Jan. 10).

The lack of noise around Butler may be due to the career year of center Bam Adebayo. Adebayo is averaging 21.6 points with 10 30-point games. He has more 30-point performances this season than his entire career prior. Another factor in the lack of recognition could be Miami’s subpar season. Unlike last year, they are a middle-of-the-pact team that ranks low in several categories involving scoring and rebounding.

Regardless of the media attention, Butler’s presence is felt in Miami. Butler emphasized what the team needs to do to re-establish their playoff contention.

“We got 23 to go to get where we need to get,” Butler said after the loss to the Brooklyn Nets. “It’s all about being healthy, which is what this break is gonna do for us. We’re gonna come out swinging, staying together, knowing that we’re getting out guys back. Then it gets real.”
