It’s a Twitter tradition that when teams get eliminated from the playoffs, players who underperform are ridiculed on social media.

The latest victim is Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown, who had 19 points against the Miami Heat in Game 7. He shot 11 percent from 3-point range with eight turnovers.

This was the story of his series, as Brown averaged 19 points while shooting 16 percent from downtown. He shot under 37 percent from the field in three games, all of which resulted in losses. Aside from Game 5, he shot 20 percent or worse from the arc.

Brown said, “don’t let us get one” before winning Game 4 and again after the Game 5 blowout victory. This message looked intimidating in the midst of a two-game win streak, but is now repeated in humor since the series comeback fell short.

Some even hilariously referenced his famous interview with Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks, when he said he’d have five rings before turning 28.

Now, Brown’s future with the team is unclear, with many believing he and Jayson Tatum played their last game together Monday night.

“I expected to win today and move on,” Brown said. “That’s what my focus was on, and that’s what my focus has been on. We failed, I failed. It’s hard to think about anything else right now to be honest. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.”

Meanwhile, the Heat advanced to their seventh Finals appearance, and their second in the last four seasons.
