Nikola Jokic Looking To Move Closer To A Third Straight MVP Tonight Against Miami Heat

Jokic trying to join Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird and Bill Russell

It seems like each time Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic is mentioned this season it is about him joining rare company.

Earlier this week, he became the fourth player to record 20 triple-doubles in a season. He joins Luka Doncic and LeBron James as the only players with at least 1,000 points, 300 rebounds and 300 assists this season. The Nuggets have alson won 24 straight games when Jokic gets a triple-double, tying Magic Johnson.

With the Nuggets atop the Western Conference, Jokic is putting himself in position to join another rare group. He is aiming to become the fourth player to win three straight regular season MVPs. The only others are Hall of Famers Bill Russell, Larry Bird and Wilt Chamberlain.

Jokic is atop the Kia MVP ladder at NBA.com, ahead of Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks), Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics), Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers) and Doncic (Dallas Mavericks).

Jokic, who is averaging 24.8 points, 11.3 rebounds and 10.1 assists, holds the edge in the race because he is producing more than just stats. The Nuggets are also 23-3 when they have at least 30 assists, with Jokic mostly leading the way.
