Older Brother Dorell Wright Explains What Delon Wright Brings To Miami Heat

Former Miami Heat draft pick Dorell Wright offers insight on why Delon Wright will be “a great fit."

The Miami Heat called on a familiar family with their Feb. 18 signing of Delon Wright.

The former Washington Wizards guard is the younger brother of Dorell Wright, the Heat’s first-round pick in 2004. Dorell, a 6-foot-9 swingman, played six years in Miami and was a part of the 2006 NBA Championship team.

Dorell, 38, thinks his brother is going to be “a great fit” in a rigorous Heat system.

“He is a Miami Heat culture player," Dorell Wright said on the "Tobin & Leroy" show on WQAM 560. "Just the discipline, understanding the task of being just a winner, he does winning things. A lot of things Delon does on the basketball court doesn’t show up in the stat sheet: Deflections, communicating, being in the right places. He is one of the perfect guards for Erik Spoelstra and the Miami Heat, just because of what he brings on both ends of the floor,” Dorell said. “I’m really looking forward to it, and for years I’ve been telling Delon, ‘I can see you one day playing in Miami.’ And I’m just so happy that it manifests."

Dorell is thrilled to see Delon, 31, with a chance to “help those guys try to get back to the Finals.”

“[It was] a little disappointing how the season was going for him in Washington. …This year, you could tell, it was just a rebuild once Bradley Beal was traded away. He is excited to finally be back in a situation where he can play for something. And, like I said, Delon is just a winner. He’s gonna do winning things. He’s excited and I can't wait to see him out there,” Dorell said.

The two brothers are more than six years apart, so when an 18-year-old Dorell arrived in Miami, Delon was a middle-schooler.

“[Delon used to be] running around on the court [with] J-Will’s (Jason Williams) kids, Shaq’s kids, so they have a lot of memories of being in the arena, being in the family room, being on the practice courts. So I know it's gonna be crazy when he gets there and he settles in, ’cause it's just a full-circle moment,” Dorell said.
