Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith was involved in a car accident on Tuesday night, with details of the situation recently being revealed.

According to TMZ Sports, "Cops state in the documents that Highsmith was going an estimated 45 MPH in a 40 MPH zone ... when he slammed into the back of a pedestrian who appeared to be pushing a broken-down car in the middle of a roadway. The docs state Highsmith told officers that the disabled vehicle did not have its lights on ... and he couldn't stop his ride in time when he came across it in the street."

Andy Slater of Fox Sports 640 reported that a victim was left with a partial leg amputation from the event.

Highsmith has been a key part of the Heat for the past two seasons. He was in the starting lineup until being replaced Caleb Martin Tuesday against the Magic. A former two-way contract player, Highsmith worked his way up to a rotation spot last season.

He was a key member of the team that advanced to play the Denver Nuggets in last year's NBA Finals. This year, Highsmith is averaging 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds.

The Heat play host to Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics on Sunday afternoon.
