Shake Milton Among Potential Free Agents Targets For Miami Heat This Offseason
With free agency swiftly approaching the Miami Heat are searching for solid role players to add to the roster this summer.
Likely without their mid-level exception, they will only be able to sign players on minimum deals. Here are three players the Heat should look into this offseason:
Shake Milton
A point guard, Milton has spent the past five seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers but becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason. He has shown much promise as a scorer, averaging nearly 20 points while starting in place of the injured James Harden. Last season Milton averaged eight points and three assists while playing behind Harden, Tyrese Maxey, and De’Anthony Melton.
With Gabe Vincent potentially leaving, the Heat are in need of a cheap backup point guard.
Max Strus
Strus, who just finished his third season with the Heat, is due for a pay raise.
The Heat should bring back Strus even in the case of being forced into the luxury tax if he requests north of the mid-level exception. Last season Strus averaged 11 points on 41 percent shooting while contributing heavily during the postseason. The Heat should focus on bringing back Strus rather than Vincent because of the amount of depth at the point guard position in free agency.
Dwight Howard
He is quite the shot in the dark after spending last season overseas playing in Taiwan. Although Howard last played in the NBA two years ago, he still believes he has the talent to compete. For the price of only a veteran’s minimum, the Heat should take a chance on the former Defensive Player of the Year because they need a backup to Bam Adebayo.
