Veteran center/power forward Christian Wood is still a free agent after a month removed from the Dallas Mavericks. Wood averaged 16.6 points on 51 percent shooting with 7.3 rebounds, leaving many confused why he hasn’t been signed yet. Los Angeles Lakers fans have largely called his name but the Miami Heat could go after him as well.

Bam Adebayo and Kevin Love lead the frontcourt but Wood could provide depth. Cody Zeller was serviceable at first but declined once Miami entered the postseason. Nikola Jovic still hasn’t seen the floor much, and may be an asset in the trade for Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard. Above all, the Heat’s biggest detriment in the Finals was the size disparity against the Denver Nuggets, illustrated by the rebounding difference and inability to contest without high-scoring performances. Wood can provide size and good scoring.

However, there are some concerns for his lackluster defense and locker room reputation. These both contradict Heat Culture, which practices selflessness and tough defensive play.

Still, Wood is certainly a possibility for Miami, especially if the Lillard trade falls through.
