Should Tyler Herro Be A Favorite To Win Most Improved Player Barring A Trade?
Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro is primed for a Most Improved Player-worthy season if traded. He is rumored to be moved this offseason for the Heat to acquire All-Star Damian Lillard.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Herro currently has +5000 odds to win the award. However, these odds will shift if he is traded to a team such as the Portland Trailblazers or Brooklyn Nets.
Herro is entering his fifth season in the league, coming off a year where he averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists on 43.9 percent shooting from the field. To win the award, he would likely need to average 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists on nearly 50 percent shooting. Improvement on the defensive side of the ball could greatly impact his chances.
Last year, Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen received the award after his sixth season. Herro could have a similar fate to Markkanen, as he was traded last summer for superstar Donovan Mitchell. Entering a new environment could be precisely what he needs to blossom into an All-Star.
If he is traded, his role in a new offense would increase, making him the first or second option. Currently, he is Miami’s third option behind stars Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.
The current favorites to receive the award, according to FanDuel, are Mikal Bridges, Cade Cunningham, and Tyrese Maxey. However, if Herro is traded, he should become a part of these conversations.
