The Miami Heat Facing A Denver Nuggets Team That Got Limited Media Coverage
The Miami Heat are set to play the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Finals.
Despite being the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, the Nuggets were doubted by those on the outside.
To be underrated as a top team is disrespectful in and of itself. But Denver has also been out of the media spotlight due to the lack of noise it makes outside of basketball.
Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix said the Nuggets are “not that interesting” on a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show.
“Frankly, the Nuggets aren’t very interesting,” Mannix said. “Nikola Jokic is arguably the best player in the game right now, but he’s not someone who does a lot of interviews outside of the NBA mandated ones. You’re not gonna see a lot of profiles on him. Jamal Murray’s a great player, but not especially interesting. Michael Porter Jr., excellent player, not especially interesting.”
Mannix believes this is why the Nuggets aren’t discussed as much as less successful teams.
“You’ve got drama in Los Angeles almost weekly,” Mannix said. “You’ve got the Suns, can they succeed in this first year with Kevin Durant? The Warriors with all of their dysfunction this year. The Clippers, can they get it together? The Nuggets problem isn’t that they’re not respected, they’re just not talked about. People just don’t find them as interesting as the teams at the bottom half of the bracket.”
The Heat share that feeling of not being discussed as much as their peers, whether it be a lack of interest or respect. Because of this, they take their opponent seriously no matter their ranking or outside perception, and the Nuggets are no different.
