Undrafted Taylor Funk Joins Miami Heat For Summer League, Eyes Two-Way Contract
After going undrafted Thursday night, Taylor Funk will be playing for the Miami Heat during summer league in hopes of receiving a two-way contract.
Last season at Utah State, he averaged 13.4 points and 5.5 rebounds, shooting 45.1 percent from the field and 37 percent from beyond the arc. Funk helped lead the Aggies to an NCAA tournament berth, where they were eliminated in the round of 64 by Missouri.
Starting in 34 games last season, Funk was named to the Mountain West All-Tournament team and was a USBWA all-district VIII selection. Before transferring to Utah State, Funk played for Saint Joseph's, where he scored 1,439 career points.
The Summer League runs July 7-17 in Las Vegas. The Heat are known around the NBA as one of the best talent developers. Rotation players Duncan Robinson, Haywood Highsmith, Gabe Vincent and Max Strus all got their starts at this stage. Afterward, they were promoted to two-way contracts, getting experience in the G League with the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
