Why Is Max Strus Succeeding More Than Gabe Vincent Since Leaving The Miami Heat?

Max Strus and Gabe Vincent are on different paths since departing from the Miami Heat in free agency

Two of the most impactful pieces of the Miami Heat’s improbable NBA Finals run were forward Max Strus and guard Gabe Vincent.

However, since leaving the Heat, Strus and Vincent have found different levels of success.

On the Cleveland Cavaliers, Strus is thriving in the starting lineup. He is averaging 14.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists on 37.3 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

Vincent is dealing with injuries after playing only four games this season for the Los Angeles Lakers. In this minor sample size, he averaged six points, three assists, and 1.5 steals on 39.3 percent shooting.

Their playstyles differ, which allows Strus to show success in more systems than Vincent.

Strus relies on his three-point shooting while playing sufficient defense. Although his streakiness remains a concern, his newfound ability to draw fouls makes up for this glaring issue. He is drawing a career-high 2.3 fouls per game.

On the other hand, Vincent’s injuries are not the lone setback he has faced this season. His usage rate dropped roughly six percent because he is playing alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. However, in his few games, Vincent did not take advantage of open looks.

Strus and the Cavaliers are facing off against the Heat on Wednesday.
