Miami Heat Land Two-Time All Star In Proposed Blockbuster Deal

Zion Williamson has had an interesting career thus far.

The 2019 No. 1 overall pick entered the league with high expectations after being drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans. He tore his meniscus early in the preseason before debuting with the team in January 2020. Since, Williamson has been named to two All-Star teams.

Even with his strong performances, many in league circles have criticized Williamson over his work ethic. There have also been concerns regarding his weight. ESPN's Tim MacMahon reported many teams are looking to acquire Williamson this summer. The Miami Heat could be one of those teams.

A trade between the Miami Heat and New Orleans Pelicans could resemble:

Miami Heat acquire: F Zion Williamson, C Kelly Olynyk

New Orleans Pelicans acquire: F Andrew Wiggins, G Duncan Robinson, F Kevin Love, 2026 first-round pick (Lottery Protected), 2029 first-round pick

For the Heat, this feels like a no-brainer. Williamson, 24, still has high potential. Williamson has quietly put up big numbers on a Pelicans team that is near the bottom of the Western Conference. Acquiring Williamson without having to trade away Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo is a huge plus. Olynyk also provides a veteran presence off the bench behind both Adebayo and Kel'el Ware. This season, Williamson is averaging 24.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists while shooting 56.3 percent from the field.

For the Pelicans, it just may be time to end the Williamson era. The team recently shipped Brandon Ingram to the Toronto Raptors. Trading away their stars for draft capital could be the move as the team heads toward another rebuild. Wiggins, Robinson and Love are solid veterans who can help bridge the gap toward a new era for Pelicans basketball.

WHO ARE HEAT'S UNTOUCHABLES?

The Miami Heat are heading toward an important offseason.

After the departure of Jimmy Butler, many are wondering who the Heat will acquire this offseason. Reports say the team is interested in acquiring Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant, but his price tag will be hefty. With a potential trade on the horizon, who should the Miami Heat view as untouchable?

Tyler Herro

This one is a no-brainer. Herro was just named to his first All-Star team after a breakout season. The 2019 first-round pick is only 25. His impact on the scoring end would be hard to replicate with many other players in the league. This season, he is averaging 23.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.7 assists. Herro is under contract through 2027.

Bam Adebayo

The longest tenured member of the Heat has been dominant since his breakout throughout the 2019-20 season. The 6-foot-9 Adebayo has played the role of small center to near perfection. He also has two Finals appearances and can provide a true veteran presence. Even with his veteran tag, he turns 28 this summer. This season, Adebayo is averaging 17.5 points, 10 rebounds and 4.4 assists. He is under contract through 2028 with a player option in 2029.

Kel'el Ware

Ware is interesting when it comes to the Heat's future. Last summer's first-round pick has made a strong impact since receiving a larger workload in 2025. Earlier this season, Ware didn't see the court much due to a crowded rotation. Ware may have to be included in Durant trade negotations because of his age and rookie contract but his skill set is something the Heat should want to keep for the future. This season, Ware is averaging 8.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 0.9 assists.

Davion Mitchell

The most shocking untouchable is Mitchell, who has made significant strides in improving his game since joining the Heat last month. Drafted in 2021, Mitchell has jumped around a few teams over recent seasons as a backup point guard. Since joining Miami, Mitchell is shooting 51 percent from the field and 47.8 percent from three-point range. This summer, Mitchell will hit unrestricted free agency. I think the Heat should be very interested in bringing him back on a team-friendly contract if possible.

Outside of these four players, I think everyone else is on the table when it comes to getting a deal done. Young guys like Jaime Jaquez and Nikola Jovic could have strong value throughout the league. Andrew Wiggins and Duncan Robinson's contracts could also be integral in matching salaries if the Heat are attempting to acquire an expensive star.

ADEBAYO REFLECTS ON WADE

Bam Adebayo is the longest tenured player on the Miami Heat.

The 2017 first-round draft pick has become one of the better centers in the league but before he became the player he is today, he was a young backup center to Hassan Whiteside.

Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade rejoined the team midway through Adebayo's rookie season after stints with the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers. Wade took Adebayo under his wing and the two developed a strong connection on the court. Wade retired after that season but Adebayo claims Wade's passing ability is the best he has ever played with throughout his eight-year career.

"My favorite person that passed me the ball was probably Dwyane Wade," Adebayo said. "I mean, we look at the scoring, but to me, D-Wade was hands down one of the best alley oop passers ever. Like, he is on time, on target every time. To have a guy like that throw you passes and understanding he could literally shoot the ball at any point, there's appreciation for having that connection, having that where you don't have to explain it. You just know, like, 'All right, I'm in the right spot. He's in the right spot and this is the connection that is going to happen.'"

Wade was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023 after a 20-season career, 15 of those seasons with the Heat. Adebayo has developed into a strong player, earning three All-Star nods along with appearances on the All-Defensive Teams.
