2023 NBA Draft Roundtable: Grading the Amari Bailey Pick
The Hornets have brought in Amari Bailey with the 41st overall pick in the NBA Draft. Check out below how our staff has graded the pick on draft night.
Eric Barnes: B
Young guy who still has some room to grow, and he played with Bronny at Sierra Canyon. He is a 6’4 Uber athlete. Needs to continue to work on his shooting and contributing in little ways to effect winning. Another worthy swing in the 2nd round.
Austin Leake: B+
I like the pick, I think Bailey is a quality player for the Hornets. He’s got some work to do, but not much of a risk for the Hornets here so it makes a lot of sense.
Ian Black: C-
Another former 5-star high school recruit. High IQ ball handler, but not much else. Not an efficient shooter and doesn’t project to be in the future. Lean frame. Has potential to be a good rotational facilitator eventually, but had more turnovers than assists in college. I don’t really get this pick.
Jon Yeager: B+
I like the swing here for Charlotte on a high-upside defensive guard. He is really strong at the point of attack and takes pride in his defense. Coming into the league and defending his position should help him stick on the Hornets roster and give him time to iron out his offensive skills. He shot 39% at UCLA from three on really low volume, so it will be interesting to see what will happen with an increased workload. There isn't much risk to this pick, and at the very least he should be able to contribute defensively.
