BREAKING: Hornets Select F Brandon Miller 2nd Overall

Charlotte's pick is in!

2022-23 Stats | 18.8 Points 8.2 Rebounds 2.1 Assists 2.2 Turn Overs 0.9 Blocks 0.9 Steals

42% Field Goal, 38.4% Three Point (7.5 Attempts per game), 85.6 Free Throw

After a lengthy period of discussion and debate lasting five weeks, the Hornets have finally revealed their decision. This choice holds immense significance for the team and is arguably the most important draft decision in their history. Considering the strength of the 2023 draft class, which features three prospects who could easily be the number one pick in other drafts, it is unlikely that the Hornets will have the opportunity to secure a top-five spot in the lottery again anytime soon.

Brandon Miller is a 6'9" wing who possesses exceptional shooting skills, a well-rounded defensive game, and surprisingly good court vision and ball-handling abilities. Despite being a forward, he showcases the skills and fluidity of a shooting guard, which aligns well with the current NBA trend of emphasizing size and shooting. However, this pick may face skepticism from many fans who had favored Scoot Henderson as the second overall pick. Nevertheless, Miller has dealt with being disliked before, enduring a challenging year off the court at Alabama, and has managed to overcome it successfully. Fans are encouraged to approach this decision with an open mind and give Miller a chance to prove his worth.

Grade  B+

Miller is a top-tier talent, Adrian Wojnarowski indicated when asked who most teams would choose at two "Most teams if they could get up to #2 it would be Brandon Miller". Miller's size, skillset and two way ability to impact the game makes him perfect for the modern NBA. The only question that still lingers is what type of alpha and leader is he? The intel on Miller isn't bad, but Scoot Henderson's was some of the best intel any draft prospect has ever had as a leader and culture changer.

Off Court Issues a Concern?

If you're concerned about Miller's off-court issues that's understandable, but after investigating the situation and speaking to Miller NBA teams don't seem concerned. In David Aldridge's latest article he quoted an Eastern Conference Executive:

All the intel we’ve got is he just happened to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time. He was the designated driver. From what we heard, he didn’t know the gun was in the car. If that’s the case, I have no qualms. He’s a legit number two, number three pick.
