Pelicans Have Historic Shooting Performance as Hornets Lose Sixth Straight
The Hornets entered this game having lost 16 of their previous 17 contests, as well as a five-game losing skid. Unfortunately, their streak continued as they fell once more to the New Orleans Pelicans 132-112. Both teams came out scoring from the opening tip, with the Pelicans holding a 43-36 edge after the first quarter. The Hornets were able to keep pace with the high-scoring New Orleans offense in the first half, trailing by only five at the half.
It was the second half where the Pelicans pulled away as they shot the ball extremely well, and the Hornets couldn't keep up. Despite strong performances from LaMelo and Terry Rozier, the Hornets couldn't slow down the Pelicans led by Brandon Ingram who had a triple-double with 28/10/10, and as a team, they made a franchise record 25 threes, shooting 53.2% from beyond the arc.
Best of the Night - Terry Rozier & LaMelo Ball
The backcourt of LaMelo and Rozier stood out for the Hornets. LaMelo led all scorers with 29 points, to pair with seven assists, despite shooting 4-12 from three, he still was the best offensive player for the Hornets tonight. Rozier had 25 points with four assists shooting 7-11 from three.
Worst of the Night - Hornets Team Defense
Hornets' defensive struggles continued, allowing too many open shots from the Pelicans and second-chance points. The inability for the Hornets to close out, properly switch, and stay on shooters, allowed the Pelicans to set record numbers from three against them.
Stat of the Night - Pelicans Set Franchise Record
Anytime another team sets a franchise record against you, it is usually not a good thing. The Pelicans made 25 three-pointers tonight, 25-47 from behind the arc, shooting 53.3%. Compared to the Hornets who shot 19-45 (42.2%) from three.
