Charlotte Hornets Reach One-Year Deal with Edmond Sumner

Charlotte adds another piece to the backcourt.

Just ahead of the start of training camp, the Charlotte Hornets are adding to the roster. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Charlotte is signing free agent point guard Edmond Sumner to a one-year deal.

Sumner appeared in 53 games last season with the Brooklyn Nets and averaged 7.1 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 46% from the field and 35% from three-point land.

The 27-year-old isn't guaranteed a spot, but considering how thin the Hornets' backcourt is, he has a pretty good chance of sticking around and being in the rotation to begin the 2023-24 season.

Last week, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reported that Cody Martin will be limited at the start of camp as he continues to work his way back from a hip/knee injury that held him out of all but seven games last year.

Although Martin primarily plays off the ball, he has some experience backing up the point. The team also signed Frank Ntilikina earlier this offseason as another bench option.
