Erik Spoelstra Calls Brandon Miller a 'Big-Time Talent'
The Charlotte Hornets came up just short of taking down their divisional rival Miami Heat on Monday, but the game did not come without some positives. Yet again, one of the brightest spots of the night for the Hornets was Brandon Miller.
The second-overall pick logged his seventh consecutive game scoring in double figures, putting up 16 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists. Miller continued what has been an excellent first six weeks of his rookie season.
After the game, Heat Head Coach Erik Spoelstra was asked about Miller's play. His answer was one that immediately showed what he sees in the young star.
"He's a heck of a talent," said Spoelstra. "Big time talent." For a coach that has worked with some of the greatest to ever play the game like LeBron James and Dwyane Wade during his tenure, these simple words become very big ones.
Some of Spoelstra's most well-known attributes are his attention to detail and ability to get the most out of his players, regardless of their perceived talent level. That makes the second part of his comments about Miller just as noteworthy as the first.
"He's being coached and held accountable to the details to winning," said Spoelstra. "And for a young player, I think that's the most important thing. You have to earn everything, and then be held accountable to things to be able to appropriately grow to impact winning."
Spo noted that Miller is being coached well in Charlotte, and concluded his comments by reiterating that the Hornets' rookie is a "big-time talent."
For one of the most accomplished and well-respected coaches in the association to feel this way about Brandon Miller at this early stage in his career speaks volumes about who he already is, and who he can be.
