Johnson spent the first five years of his NBA career with the Hornets and averaged 19.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. He was named the NBA's Rookie of the Year in 1991-92 and was selected to two All-Star games (1992-93, 1994-95). Following the 1992-93 campaign, Johnson was named to the All-NBA Second Team alongside Dominique Wilkins (Hawks), Patrick Ewing (Knicks), Joe Dumars (Pistons), and John Stockton (Jazz).
