Hornets Assistant Reportedly Leaving for Brooklyn

Charlotte is set to lose a member of its coaching staff.

Steve Clifford had one of the largest coaching staffs in the NBA this past season as he kept a handful of assistants left over from James Borrego in addition to hiring his own guys.

That staff, however, is expected to shrink soon as Jay Hernandez is reportedly set to leave for the Brooklyn Nets, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

Hernandez has been with the Hornets since the 2018-19 season and has had a big role in player development. He came to Charlotte with Borrego from Orlando and the two could be reuniting once again with Jacque Vaughn relatively soon. Borrego is receiving interest for head coaching jobs around the league but is also in consideration for the lead assistant job in Brooklyn under Vaughn.
