Hornets Hit All-Time Low in ESPN's 2023 Future Power Rankings

In this story:
ESPN released their annual "Future Power Rankings" which project the on-court success for the next three seasons. The rankings assign scores for each of their categories; Rostered players (58%), Management (17%), Money (8%), Market (8%), and Draft (8%) to give a total score.
The Hornets finished with a total score of 24.3, ranking them 29th out of the 30 teams. This is the same position as they finished last season, although their score was at least higher at a total of 28.3. You can see the ranked totals for each of the scoring categories from last year compared to this year below.
| Ranked Categories | 2022 | 2023 |
|---|---|---|
Players | 26th | Tied 27th |
Management | 27th | 30th |
Money | 7th | 9th |
Market Size | 25th | Tied 28th |
Draft | 9th | 13th |
Shockingly, the Hornets received a score of 1/100 for "Management" from ESPN's Insiders, a drop from the score of 20 last year. That score appears to be a record breaker:
In ESPN's "Future Power Rankings" their NBA Insiders gave the Charlotte Hornets "Management" a score of 1/100, 20 behind the next worse franchise.

I checked and can confirm that is the lowest single score in any category in the history of the "Future Power Ranking" series. pic.twitter.com/J72h0JfPoK
The low management score appears to be attributed to a combination of ownership change and the Hornets' decision to re-sign Miles Bridges. Despite adding the 2nd overall pick in Brandon Miller and Mark Williams finishing the year strong, this year's talent level received a lower score. The ESPN rankings were put together by NBA analysts Kevin Pelton, Bobby Marks, Andre Snellings, and Tim Bontemps.
