Hornets Offer 'Wasn't Enough' for Dennis Smith Jr.

Dennis Smith Jr. resurrected his NBA career this past season in Charlotte, averaging 8.8 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game while shooting 41% from the field.
He felt like a perfect fit for a Steve Clifford team with his tenacious defense and the effort he plays with on that end of the floor. The Hornets wanted to bring him back to continue to be the backup for LaMelo Ball, but the two sides couldn't agree on the value of his next contract, according to Michael Scotto HoopsHype.
"Charlotte offered Smith Jr. more than a minimum contract, league sources told HoopsHype, but it wasn’t enough. For Smith Jr., he saw a greater opportunity to play in Brooklyn, whom he heard from immediately at the start of free agency and was a priority, which also appealed."
Scotto also mentions that the Hornets attempted to land Aaron Holiday before he agreed to a deal with the Houston Rockets. Now, he believes Delon Wright of the Washington Wizards is a possible trade target for Charlotte.
