The Charlotte Hornets didn't waste anytime in Free Agency signing franchise point guard LaMelo Ball to a 5 year designated maximum contract worth up to $260 million. Despite dealing with injury issues, LaMelo Ball has shown to be one of the most exciting young guards in the NBA. Despite the report having a figure of "Up to" $260 million, the contract will only reach that figure if LaMelo Ball makes an All-NBA team over the duration of his contract. If Ball does not qualify, it would revert to a $203 million contract over five years.

This move comes as a relief for Hornets fans as the change in new ownership has created some uncertainty with Charlotte's 2023 off-season. This contract puts LaMelo Ball in pole position to be the face of the franchise. It is unknown if there are any team or player options in the contract at this stage.
