BREAKING: Hornets to Trade Gordon Hayward to Oklahoma City
The Charlotte Hornets are set to trade veteran forward Gordon Hayward to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for guard Tre Mann, forward Davis Bertans and former Euroleague MVP (2021) Vasilije Micic and Draft compensation, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Hayward signed a four-year, $120 million contract with the Hornets back in 2020 but has spent much of those years on the shelf, missing 118 of the possible 286 games (41%). During his time with the Hornets, Hayward averaged 16.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and four assists per game.
As for the newcomers, Mann, 23, is a former first-round pick of Oklahoma City where he was taken 18th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft. Since averaging 10.4 points per game in his rookie season, Mann has seen his role decrease in each of the last two seasons. This year, he's only appeared in 13 games, seeing nine minutes of action per contest.
Bertans, 31, has only played in 15 games this season but has been a quality backup forward over the years. For his career, Bertans is averaging 7.6 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
Micic is a 30 year old rookie who has been one of the best point guards in the Euroleague for the past five years. Micic signed a three-year $23.7 million deal with OKC last off-season, the final year is a team option.
For Charlotte to complete this trade it will require them to waive two players, unless additional roster spots are created in a separate move. At the time of this post the details of the draft compensation are yet to be reported.
